Plastics

Scioto County, Ohio has been a longtime leader in the plastics industry for several reasons -including our transportation connectivity, remarkably affordable utilities, and convenient access to OEMs and other key customers for the industry.

Our transportation infrastructure, with extensive rail and river access, makes it affordable to transport large quantities of plastic pellets and other raw materials to local plants, while our abundant and low-cost utilities keeps processing costs low for companies involved in extrusion, molding, and blown plastic components and assemblies. We’re located in the nation’s auto industry corridor and close to Ohio’s network of appliance manufacturers, giving companies a ready base of eager customers.

Add in local residents’ work ethic, and it’s easy to see what draws plastics companies to our area. Area educators keep the supply of highly trained workers strong. Shawnee State University offers a BS in Plastics Engineering Technology that emphasizes processing and includes significant components in the areas of materials, mold design, and production methods. Scioto County Career Technical College offers high-school, adult, and high-education programs in industrial maintenance, CNC programming and operation, maintenance, welding, plastics engineering, and digital simulation, among others.
